GE Energy Services Chooses ABLE Innovations for Key Brazilian Project
ABLE Innovations localizes and delivers GE Energy's Brazilian-bound training course

Background:
GE Energy Services is one of the world's leading suppliers of power generation and energy delivery technology, with 2005 revenues of nearly $16.5 billion. GE's Energy business provides equipment, services and management solutions across the power generation, oil and gas, distributed power and energy rental industries.

GE contracted with Iberdrola-Termope, one of the largest renewable energy operators worldwide, for the delivery of gas and steam turbines for utilization in the construction of a power plant located in Brazil. The contract also required GE to localize, print and deliver versions of manuals in Brazilian Portuguese, as well as provide on-site training for the operation and maintenance of the turbines.

Challenge:
GE's training division was tasked with delivering three months of on-site training in Brazilian Portuguese with expertly translated, printed manuals. Given the aggressive delivery schedule of the turbines and the intricacy in converting content, ABLE Innovations was entrusted with this key project.

ABLE was given a five-month schedule for pre-production, translation, editing, review, DTP and printing of material that consisted of over 2.5 million words and 9,000 images across eleven manuals. The completed manuals, along with subject matter interpreters/trainers, would be required to arrive on-site in Brazil for the starting date of GE's training to Iberdrola.

ABLE's directive was to create a comprehensive style guide, glossary and terminology list, as well as extract all of the translatable text from non-editable PDF files. The greatest challenge came at the end of the project with a last minute request to source subject-matter experts to both interpret and serve as trainers for Iberdrola. Faced with the obstacles involving the remoteness of the training site, ABLE successfully secured the qualified resources-and-stayed within budget.

Results:
ABLE delivered a turn-key language solution that included a triple layer of quality built into the process to insulate not only GE Energy Services but also Iberdrola from project risk. Former GE engineers were secured as subject matter experts to train the linguistic team and ensure technical accuracy. ABLE's innovative Methodology (AiM), in the hands of veteran project managers following ISO: 9000: 2001 compliant processes, ensured uninterrupted, controlled and secure management of the Iberdrola project. In addition, ABLE provided a more efficient and less expensive content localization approach without the need for GE to incur staff overhead or sacrifice quality.
