ALTA Platform®
Savings Sensitivity Tool

Adjust transfer volume, patient weight and staffing to see how much manual lifting and staff time one ALTA unit removes each month. Baseline figures come from the 2025 University Health Network evaluation at Toronto General Hospital.

Assumptions

Two = onto the transport surface, then off at the destination.
The evaluation measured an average of 2.48 staff per ALTA transfer.
Evaluation data came mostly from staff’s first and second ALTA transfers.
Split ALTA worker hours across
Sets each person’s share of the measured ALTA time, which is then multiplied by your staff count.

    How the numbers are calculated

Worker hours are staff count multiplied by the time each person is occupied.

      Sources and caveats

Measured. CAN Health / University Health Network ALTA evaluation, CT unit, Toronto General Hospital, January to June 2025. Manual transfers averaged 1.08 worker hours and 4.27 staff; ALTA transfers averaged 0.82 worker hours and 2.48 staff, a 24% and 42% reduction respectively. The report’s narrative also cites 0.75 ALTA worker hours; 0.82 is the figure consistent with the stated 24% reduction.

Estimated. Trips per month, transfers per trip and average patient weight are Able Innovations estimates.

Projected. Any staffing level other than the measured 2.48, and any experience gain, is modelled rather than observed. One-person ALTA transfers were not tested in the evaluation, and solo use depends on each hospital’s patient-handling policy. Able’s post-evaluation data showed about 50% faster transfer times by staff’s fourth attempt; that measures transfer time, not worker hours.

Who was observed. Staff in the evaluation were Hospital Assistants and CT Technologists.
