Able Innovations Announces Deployment of the ALTA Platform® at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center

Able Innovations is proud to announce the deployment of the ALTA Platform® at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, part of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH), marking the company’s first hospital implementation in the United States.  Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is a 400-bed, Level-I Trauma center in Burlington, MA. Its parent system, Beth Israel Lahey Health, has 14 hospitals within the health system and is one of the largest health systems in the state and in the Northeast United States.

This milestone represents an important step forward in Able Innovations’ mission to transform how care is physically delivered within healthcare environments.

A New Frontier in Healthcare: Physical AI

For the past several decades, healthcare innovation has largely focused on digitizing information such as electronic medical records, clinical data systems, and digital workflows.

However, many of the physical workflows inside hospitals remain largely unchanged.

A new frontier is now emerging: Physical AI. Intelligent robotic systems designed to improve how work is physically carried out in complex environments like hospitals.

Rethinking One of Healthcare’s Most Critical Workflows

One of the most physically demanding tasks in healthcare is patient movement.

Every day, caregivers move patients between beds, imaging tables, stretchers, operating rooms, and other care environments. These transfers are essential to clinical care, yet they often require significant physical effort and can contribute to caregiver injury and operational inefficiencies.

The ALTA Platform® was designed to rethink this fundamental workflow by prioritizing safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM).

By combining robotics, intelligent motion systems, and caregiver-centered design, the platform enables safer and more efficient lateral patient transfers, helping to reduce physical strain on clinical teams while improving comfort and dignity for patients.

Advancing Safer and Sustainable Healthcare Systems

Healthcare systems around the world are facing increasing operational pressures from workforce shortages to rising demand for care.

Technologies that support caregivers, improve efficiency, and enhance patient experience are becoming critical to building more resilient and sustainable healthcare systems.

The deployment of the ALTA Platform® at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center represents an important opportunity to explore how robotics and Physical AI can support frontline healthcare teams while improving patient care workflows.

Looking Ahead

Able Innovations has worked closely with healthcare partners throughout the development of the ALTA Platform®, including multiple deployments at prominent Canadian hospitals.

The deployment at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center represents the next step in expanding the platform’s impact internationally.

Able Innovations looks forward to working alongside the teams at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and Beth Israel Lahey Health as a system.

A part of honoring the vital work frontline teams do every day is giving them tools that better equip them to operate at the top of their license. Together, these efforts represent a shared commitment to advancing innovation that improves caregiver safety, hospital efficiency, and patient dignity.
