Innovation in the Heart of the Community: Mission Memorial Hospital in B.C Adopts the ALTA Platform®

Mission Memorial Hospital (MMH) has officially launched the ALTA Platform®, making it the first community hospital to integrate Able Innovations’robotic patient transfer technology. As a part of the Fraser Health Authority, MMH demonstrates that meaningful innovation finds its strongest momentum when it is driven by the needs of the local community.

The arrival of the ALTA Platform marks a significant shift in how patient safety and dignity are prioritized during clinical workflows. While patient transfers are a routine part of daily operations, they have traditionally been one of the most labor-intensive tasks for staff and a frequent source of discomfort for patients.

Dr. Andrew Edelson, a retired physician and former site director at MMH who helped spearhead this initiative, highlights the critical value of this technology:

“The ALTA will improve patient safety during transfer, improve patient comfort [and] dignity. The equipment will also benefit staff, by pulling less staff away from other duties each time a patient needs to be transferred. It will make the job of staff easier and faster and will soon pay for itself.”

Building a Resilient Healthcare Workforce

In an era of evolving healthcare demands, the well-being of frontline clinicians is paramount. By utilizing Able Innovations’ Physical AI-enabled technology to navigate the complexities of lateral patient transfers, MMH is taking a proactive step toward mitigating the physical rigors that often lead to musculoskeletal strain and significant injuries.

By streamlining the transfer process, the hospital can better support its most valuable resource: its people. Our CEO, Jayiesh Singh, emphasizes the importance of this leadership:

“By adopting the ALTA Platform, Mission Memorial is setting an example for how community healthcare can lead the way and address challenges through automation and robotics. Rural facilities face immense and growing challenges. With the ALTA, we hope to play our part in providing sustainability by empowering front-line staff while creating efficiency and providing an enhanced overall experience for patients.”
